Music has the rare power to connect generations, carrying forward legacies while shaping new voices. Recently, Piyashi Sengupta was honored to lend her artistry to a very special project—a recording for Prrayash Majumdar, grandson of the legendary Assamese Rabindrasangeet singer Late Dilip Sharma.

The recording took place at none other than Shreya Ghoshal’s studio, a space that has witnessed many soulful creations. For Piyashi, the opportunity was more than just a recording; it was a chance to be part of a legacy that stretches from Assam to every corner of India.

A Family Steeped in Musical Legacy

Prrayash hails from a family where music runs in every vein. His grandmother is not only the wife of Dilip Sharma but also the sister of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika, one of India’s greatest musical icons. His mother, Mrs. Rijushree Sarma Majumdar, is a respected vocalist in her own right and has carried forward the tradition of Rabindrasangeet with elegance and depth.

The album, largely sung by Rijushree ji, is a heartfelt tribute to her father. Yet, one special song features Prrayash’s own voice, carrying forward his family’s legacy. It is here that Piyashi made her mark, lending her soulful sargam to enrich the composition.

Piyashi’s Contribution

The track demanded a depth of classical training and emotional sensitivity—qualities that have always defined Piyashi’s singing. Her sargam passages gave the song a layered texture, blending tradition with freshness.

Prrayash himself shared, “Her vocals have given the album another dimension. The way she added soul to the sargam lifted the entire track.” Such praise reflects the unique ability Piyashi has to transform compositions into living experiences.

Beyond a Recording—An Experience

For Piyashi, the project wasn’t merely about contributing to a song. It was about immersing herself in the heritage of two legendary figures—Dilip Sharma and Bhupen Hazarika—while supporting the voice of a new generation.

She described it as “a humbling experience to sing for a family that embodies such rich musical history. To be a small part of this journey feels like carrying a torch across time.”

As she continues to collaborate with young and established talents alike, this project marks another jewel in her journey—a testament to her versatility and respect for tradition.
