Vocal Care Hacks – Piyashi Sengupta’s Routine for Aspiring Singers
🎶 Your Voice is Your Instrument—Protect It Like One
As a singer, your voice isn’t just your gift—it’s your greatest asset. And like any instrument, it needs tuning, care, and rest.
Here are a few simple yet powerful vocal care tips I’ve followed through years of live shows, recordings, and rehearsals—shared from experience, not theory.
💧 1. Hydration is Non-Negotiable
Warm water > cold water. Always. Keep your cords lubricated throughout the day. I drink lukewarm water with a hint of honey before every session.
🛑 2. Avoid Over-Speaking or Whispering
Most people don’t realize that whispering strains the vocal cords more than regular speech. And shouting? An absolute no. Speak gently, especially around gigs.
🍋 3. Steam, Don’t Scream
Steaming with plain water works wonders. It soothes the cords, opens up nasal passages, and helps with breath control. I steam daily during performance seasons.
😴 4. Sleep is Your Silent Healer
Resting your voice is just as important as exercising it. Without proper sleep, your vocal stamina takes a big hit. Never skip your 7–8 hours.
🎙️ 5. Warm Up… and Cool Down
Most singers warm up—but few cool down. After long practice or gigs, I gently hum and do soft lip trills. It helps avoid vocal fatigue.
🧘♀️ Bonus: Mind Your Mind
Your voice mirrors your emotional state. Practice breathing, stay calm, and try light meditation before intense sessions.
